When you press the PLAY button the Launcher sets all the files properly and the game starts. So b efore you open the DMN LAUNCHER you must have logged in to your Steam Client or restart your Steam Client and try again. The CTD can be noticed before start, before a custom battle or before a campaign start but this has to do with Steam not liking other files in its folder.
